Specialists say chemical compounds in these cigarettes are surprisingly dangerous

Scientists in France warn that, contrary to popular opinion, electronic cigarettes aren't all that healthy.

On the contrary, they contain loads of chemical compounds that, just like the ones found in run-off-the-mill tobacco, can cause cancer.

After testing 10 different e-cigarettes, some of which were rechargeable and some of which were disposable, the researchers concluded that the vapors let out by all these gadgets contained carcinogenic molecules.

Besides, three of the devices tested as part of this study were found to let out almost as much formaldehyde as regular cigarettes do.

“We detected a significant quantity of carcinogenic molecules in the vapor of these cigarettes which have thus far gone undetected.”

“In three models out of ten the levels of the carcinogenic compound formaldehyde come close to those of a conventional cigarette,” specialist Thomas Laurenceau says, as cited by Daily Mail.

“The highly toxic molecule acrolein was also detected in the vapours of e-cigarettes, sometimes at levels even higher than in traditional cigarettes,” he adds.

The researchers urge that, in light of these findings, high officials try and better regulate the use of electronic cigarettes.
