Dynasty Warriors 5 is a videogame developed by Omega Force and published by KOEI Co. Ltd. The game was released for the PlayStation 2 console from Sony and the original Xbox from Microsoft in March 2005. The title is classed as an action adventure game played from a third person perspective with a lot of influences taken from history and some light fantasy elements. There are also role playing elements linked to how the characters progress in the game.

It is another iteration in the long running series based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms epic story, which details one of the most interesting periods of the history of ancient China. The fifth main installment of the franchise removes most of the added elements that are hallmarks of the Xtreme Legends and Empires spinoffs, instead focusing on upgrading the main fighting experience of the series.

The setting is the same but the developers found a way to offer no less than 48 different playable characters that can be chosen for the Musou game mode. Unfortunately, gamers interested in those characters will have to play the title for a while to actually unlock them and only six are completely new to the series.

The creators of the franchise have put in the effort needed to actually offer a backstory for each of them in addition to including a wide array of moves. A very important change is made regarding the bodyguards, now more able to protect the main character from the enemy waves.
