Techland confirms that it won't launch Dying Light for the PS3 or Xbox 360 platforms in early 2015, as after internal testing it's found that the game can't perform as expected on the old consoles. As such, it will only appear for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Dying Light was revealed to the world quite some time ago as a new-generation zombie game that's an evolution of Techland's already popular undead series Dead Island. By combining an open world, gruesome monsters, not to mention parkour elements and quite a few different modes, the game was looking set to deliver an intense zombie-slaying experience this year.

Unfortunately, the title got delayed for extra polishing time and was rescheduled to debut in early 2015 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.

Dying Light is no longer coming to last-gen consoles

However, another announcement from Techland has just appeared on Facebook, claiming that, after thorough internal tests, the studio is no longer working to bring Dying Light to the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Apparently, the vision for the game just can't run as expected on the last-gen consoles, and as such, the studio is now focusing its efforts on bringing the best experience possible to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.

"After thorough internal testing, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave past-gen systems behind and release Dying Light exclusively on the next-gen consoles and PC. Put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time," the studio explains.

"To ensure you enjoy Dying Light as much as we would like you to, we chose to release it without any compromises on the three strongest systems available. Thanks to this, you’ll get the full and best experience regardless of the platform you play on. We hope you understand the hard choice we’ve had to make. With the launch just around the corner, we can’t wait to show you Dying Light in the state it was meant to be."

The game has plenty of ambitious features

The studio also highlights some of the ambitious features found in Dying Light that couldn't be all included in the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of the game. From the fact that the title can display up to 200,000 objects at once to the physics-based lighting, the natural movement system, the character development mechanic, or the huge open world, quite a few elements couldn't co-exist on the last-gen consoles.

You can expect to hear more about Dying Light as we get closer to its release on January 27 in North America and January 30 in Europe and the rest of the world for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
