Earlier this month, Nikon added the 18.4MP V3 to its Nikon 1 Compact System Camera (CSC) line of products. The company says the device boasts the “world’s fastest continuous shooting frame rate” to be found on an interchangeable camera, at 20 frames per second with full autofocus.

Nikon further claimed the V3 can easily take on pro DSLRs, but since during product launches, the claims are big, real-life testing is essential to verifying the claims.

So the Nikon 1 V3 got recently DxOMarked. The overall DxOMark Sensor Score is set to 52, which doesn't place it far away from the Nikon 1 V1 (54) and V2 (50).

It’s also comparable with the Nikon 1 AW1 (51) even though its “Sport (Low-light ISO) score is lower. Even if the Nikon 1 V3 comes with a new 18-megapixel sensor, its most impressive improvements lie somewhere else.

According to the DxO Labs review the Nikon 1 V3’s strong points are the new and significantly improved AF system, the fast continuous shooting rates with autofocus and expanded video functionalities.

Check out the full results on the DxO Labs website and if you find them worthy, you should know the 10-30mm lens (plus grip and viewfinder) will go on sale starting next month for the price of $1200 / €861.
