Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was the highest paid actor in Hollywood last year, thanks to his involvement in several very successful action films. He is now taking his special brand of action and humor (and his gorgeous smile) to the small screen as well.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Johnson’s dramedy “Ballers” has been picked up for a series, adding that it “examines the lives of a group of former and current football players.”

Based on a script by Stephen Levinson, “Ballers” will be produced by Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg, with the latter also directing the pilot.

The series will star a bunch of other big names, including Rob Corddry, Troy Garity, Omar Benson Miller, Jazmyn Simon, John David Washington, and LeToya Luckett, but Johnson will play lead.

“The series marks Johnson's latest small-screen effort and first series regular role. His credits also include hosting TNT's reality competition series The Hero,” THR says. It doesn’t offer an air date for the pilot, but do keep an eye on this space for more on this new project.
