As we were also telling you yesterday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is making a comeback to the action genre with “Faster,” now playing in theaters in the US. For the role, the actor and former wrestler packed some serious muscle.

Of course, as fans must know, Dwayne was never really the skinny type – quite on the contrary, actually, he’s always been very well build and defined.

However, in “Faster,” he’s bigger than ever – about 10 to 12 pounds of muscle, he estimates in a recent interview with ScreenCrave.

Because he plays a former con who spent over 9 years of his 10-year jail sentence in solitary confinement, Dwayne had to return to the basics in terms of training – and he even had some help from former inmates with it.

“It was about three-and-a-half months of training but it’s not, I mean, it was probably ten pounds, or twelve,” the actor says in the interview.

“We had the great fortune of sitting down a couple of individuals who had served a lot of time in maximum security prisons for a variety of crimes including murder, [it was about] getting in their psyche,” he adds.

“And their thought process and their perspective on what it’s like to take another man’s life. But their training itself in a prison yard, it’s a raw type of training,” the actor adds.

He calls it raw because it’s the simplest, most challenging routine he’s ever done: because most of these guys (including his own character), spend so much time in solitary, there’s really not much for them to do but work out.

“Nine-and-a-half of those years were in solitary confinements and the prison population in that environment, the type of training that they do is very unsophisticated training and moving weight and there’s a density to a lot of prisoners muscularity when they train like that over a period of years,” Dwayne says.

Asked if he plans on keeping the extra weight, he says “bigger is always better” but doesn’t go into details. Just in case the photo attached to this article doesn’t do him justice, this is how Dwayne Johnson looks these days.
