It's not that big a secret that Dwayne Johnson has put a lot of heart into his recent role of Hercules, the movie that's set to open in theaters this week. The actor worked very hard to bulk up for the role, and even got in the frame of mind of the ancient warrior he calls “the world's first superhero.”

Sitting down for an interview with Digital Spy, Dwayne might have taken his passion for the Greek demigod one step too far and said some things that might anger some of his fans who also like Superman.

The question of who would win in a direct fight, Hercules or Superman came about after “Hercules” director Brett Ratner disclosed that he often would wonder as a child who was a better fighter, the son of Zeus or the son of Jor-El.

For Dwayne Johnson, there can only be one answer to that question and he's very clear on his position: Hercules would win that fight. The actor proudly added that “I would take my club and I would knock Superman into next week, and then I would whup his [expletive] for leaving!”

Johnson seems to be unaware of the fact that such theoretical discussions are never resolved and they only manage to ruin friendships as everyone has a clear idea about who would win and it's generally their own idol, which is exactly what has happened with “The Rock.”

But the actor did want to make one thing clear. His theory about the winner only applies if we're talking about his Hercules and Henry Cavill's Superman. The former wrestler has also added that he knows Cavill in real life and that they're actually good friends.

That might change now that Dwayne has been bragging on TV that he can beat up Henry and his character of Superman, widely regarded as the best super hero of all time (although that's still open to interpretation depending on who you ask).

Meanwhile, people are getting ready to see what Johnson made of the ancient myth of Hercules, in the movie that opens up in theaters on July 25.

There has already been a Hercules movie this year, in which Kellan Lutz played the title role and which flopped at the box office because it failed to impress audiences. We'll see if The Rock manages to fare any better. He didn't hesitate to claim that his version was way better than the movie that came out in spring.
