The anticipation is killing comicbook fans, and Dwayne Johnson sure knows how to build up suspense. He's been rumored for a while now to play a DC Comics superhero, but so far, all we've had were educated guesses and no confirmations. This comes the closest to an official position.

Just hours ago, Dwayne Johnson, who is still busy promoting his latest film in cinemas, the ancient epic tale of “Hercules,” somehow found the time to send social media in a frenzy by posting a photo of some comic book concept art on Twitter.

The photo in question shows three DC superheroes, Superman, Shazam and Black Adam, going toe to toe in an aerial fist fight. The image in question was captioned “Someone's gonna get it ...” and it was enough to make fans throw around the wildest scenarios as to which of the three The Rock would be playing in an upcoming film.

In a recent interview, Dwayne dropped some pretty big hints, but people still weren't able to pinpoint his character. “There's a character out there that we're going to announce very soon that I'm going to play. And, I'll just say this... he has the power of Superman,” he said.

He was careful to add that “it's not Green Lantern,” seeing as how his name was connected for a long time with that project due to some early gossip. This new development has reinforced the idea that Johnson is in line to play Shazam.
