A few days ago, the Netherlands’ Security and Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten, Economic Affairs Minister Henk Kamp and Minister of Home Affairs Ronald Plasterk published a joint letter regarding the recent cyberattacks on Belgian telecoms company Belgacom.

According to the officials, there’s no evidence that Dutch telecommunications companies have been targeted in the United States National Security Agency's spying operations. In fact, the ministers have clarified that there’s no evidence to indicate that the cyberattacks on DigiNotar and KPN are the work of a state-sponsored actor.

Opstelten, Kamp and Plasterk highlight the fact that telecoms companies are responsible for securing their own infrastructures. They also point to recent reports from AIVD, the Dutch intelligence and security service, which warn that the safety of the country’s cyber space requires some attention.

However, they claim that there’s no indication that the Netherlands is the target of digital espionage activities.
