DigiD, the identity management platform used by government agencies in the Netherlands to verify the identity of Dutch citizens, has been disrupted by a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack.

The service started experiencing disruptions earlier today. Initially, Logius, the company maintaining DigiD, blamed it on a technical issue, but representatives of the Netherlands Ministry of Interior later confirmed that it was indeed a cyberattack, NRC.nl reports.

Officials highlight the fact that this is merely a service disruption and not a data breach. They reassure citizens that their information is safe.

It’s uncertain who is behind the attack and for how long it will continue.

This is not the first time when digid.nl is taken down by a DDOS attack. Back in April, a similar attack was launched against the website.

Currently, DigiD is still inaccessible.
