Second Life is a virtual universe, a user-controlled, online digital playground, where the subscribers can create their own avatar and their online persona and then engage in interactions with others like them.
Duran Duran just announced that it will join the 370,000 people in Second Life and that it will even give live performances for them.
Each of the members of the band will have their online persona, will live, interact with the fans and give interviews to the media. From now and then, special performances will be given, at a price of course. They are said to coincide with the band's real-life shows.
The keyboardist, Nick Rhodes, said that this is a very good opportunity for the band to participate in something as spectacular as Second Life is, to grow with the times and to get in touch with their fans again.
'Second Life has brought a new dimension to the Internet. It is the new frontier where dreams have become reality. Whatever you can imagine is now possible. When the video revolution began we instantly saw the opportunity to experiment and explore a new form of expression to enhance the musical experience'.

'Second Life is the future right now, offering endless possibilities for artists. Our community will be able to help develop the island into a fully functional, futuristic utopia, where you can never be quite sure what to expect', Rhodes added.
Duran Duran is the first band to take part in Second Life and, according to the virtual world designer Rivers Run Red, the members will make their appearance in the virtual universe next month. He also stated that the boys are already preparing for the first online show. Meanwhile, if not a member of Second Life, fans can catch Duran perform at the Miami Bang Music Festival, on November 11.
