Duran Duran's 1995 album, Thank You, is, according to a Q magazine poll the worst albums of all time.

Almost 2 000 people voted in the poll, including professional guitarists and music teachers.

The 1995 release is a collection of covers featuring songs by artists who have influenced Duran Duran throughout the years. Thank You features versions of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day", Public Enemy's "911 is a Joke" and Elvis Costello's "Watching the Detectives". The band admitted later that Thank You was a "commercial suicide".

Deputy Director of Q, Gareth Grundy, told the Independent: "Sometimes these things are redeemed by some sort of kitsch value, but it didn't even have that"; he added that Thank You was "abysmal on every level".

Other albums voted by Q magazine's readers as "worst of all time" include Naomi Campbell's Baby Woman, Mick Jagger's solo album Primitive Cool and Billie Idol's Cyberpunk.

Ironically, in 2003 Duran Duran won Q magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award.

And in the opposite corner of the charts, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" was voted by readers of Total Guitar magazine, the ultimate guitar solo of all time. Other Top 10 tracks include The Eagles' "Hotel California" and Jimmy Hendrix's "Voodoo Child".

Yet...This album features the best cover ever made of a Lou Reed song (according to Lou Reed himself), one of the best Led Zeppelin cover as well (according to Plant and Page),and the best version of "White Lines" ever recorded featuring Mele Mel and the Furious Five. Critics can't be objective/honest when it comes to Duran Duran. I mean, any NKOTB,Backstrret Boys, come even close to the quality of some of the songs on Thank You which features some amazing guitar work by ex-Zappa guitarist Warren Cucurrullo......get real! Thank You is definitely NOT the worst album of all time.

Thank You is a great album, the problem was it was released in 1995 when the grunge movement was mainstream and there wasn't anything further from 'grunge' than Duran Duran therefore anything Duran had recorded at that time would have been equally ridiculed no matter how good it really was. Thank You is very good, far better than what is achieved by today's bands.

While Duran Duran fans were probably none to happy to hear that DD were releasing a covers album in 1995 as a follow up to the 1993s successful Wedding Album, this is defintely not the worst album of all time. While not a classic ..this vote must have been rigged! As mentioned in comment 1 above Lou Reed and Plant and Page thought the covers were excellent. An atmospheric reworking of a Duran Duran track 'the chauffeur' called 'drive by' also appears on the album, along with good covers of Elvis Costello's 'Watching the Detectives' and a very good version of the Doors 'Crystal ship'.
There are some uninspiring tunes such as Dylan's Lay Lady Lay and in trying to cover everything from rap to glam rock and beyond they probably spread themselves thin by covering a wide range of influences...but you can never blame Duran Duran for playing safe...hence their up and down career but also look at their longevity and loyal fan base.

Sure it's not the worst album at all. Just take a look at the songs and listen them all, we'll find a lot of interesting compositions. I'd compared these cover version songs (recorded in this album) to the original ones (by original artists), these cover versions are great..rich of inovation from the original ones. The music in this album is like a new energy for the old time songs.

Of course it is hardly the worst album of all time. It isn't my cup of tea but the praise it got for the covers from some of the original artists means more than some backbit poll. Some people just have blinkers on with Duran and don't recognze their musical talents.
