17 years after releasing their first antivirus solution for Mac OS 8, Intego comes out with a new app in the Mac App Store. Duplicate Zapper is, as one might expect, an app that helps you get rid of the files that somehow got a clone on your system.

Duplicate Zapper is being described as the app that finds and removes duplicates based on the file content, not just the name or timestamp. The UI is easy to use. Once you start it, you are asked whether you want to narrow your search by Folders, Archives, Movies, Documents, Music, or Pictures. You can also choose the file locations you want to scan and add folders that are going to be excluded.

The app will analyze your files in a very colorful way and then give you an idea of what is duplicated and where those files are. Press the big, red "Zap!" button and you have already gained some of that precious space on your Mac.

The developers make the case of the auto-select options that will help you manage and review your duplicates. You can find them by longest or shortest path, by originals (remove all the files that have "copy" or a number appended to the original name), keep the earliest or the latest dates.

Duplicate Zapper requires a Mac running 10.7 or later and you can get it now for $6.99 (€5.22). If you need more power and some extra features like file organizing and anti-virus scanning, make sure to try Washing Machine Secure X8 developed by the same company.
