Windows XP is an operating system that’ll go dark in just three months and since the migration to another Windows version usually involves hardware upgrade, a charity call for users to donate their old-configuration computers.

Camara Education says that many old PCs can be reused by those in poor countries who need to learn how to work on a computer, including those living in Ethiopia, Jamaica, and Uganda, SiliconRepublic notes.

The charity has refurbishment centers in Dublin, Belfast, London, and California and claims that all Windows XP PCs would be erased. Company experts would then install Edubuntu, a Linux distribution specifically designed for kids who want to learn how to work on a computer.

“Free educational software is installed, in addition to Open Office and Wikipedia, giving children access to a range of valuable tools and resources. Over 5 million children could benefit from an improved education and become digitally literate if attitudes towards computer reuse were to change,” Camara Education explained.
