Duke Nukem is one of the video game industry's most respected and popular characters thanks to his whole rockstar persona and how he usually disposes of huge monsters, most of the time much bigger than him. But he is also known for the fact that the video games in which he stars get delayed over and over again and are frequently plagued with some very unfortunate events.
One of the most highly anticipated titles that were scheduled to feature him was Duke Nukem Forever, a video game that promised massive enemies and a pure tongue-in-cheek approach to the gameplay and story mechanics we see today in almost all of the video games available on the market.
Sadly though, the studio that had the title in development for over 10 years, 3D Realms, has announced that it will close down and that the game's development will stop until the owner of the license, Take Two, will move it to another company. Luckily, the former staff of the studio saw fit to unveil some of the concept art and a full 3-minute video that showcased some of the mechanics and characters that were scheduled to appear in the title.
Although short of the full game, these new resources are very interesting and will make a lot of fans quite sad that the company hasn't managed to escape the worldwide recession and has closed down. Hopefully though, Take Two will manage to move it to another studio and the team there will continue the work of 3D Realms and, eventually, after a huge wait, it will deliver a game fit to bear the Duke Nukem name.
Until then though, indulge in the screenshots and artwork below, from the personal blogs of art director Tramell Isaac and concept artist Layne Johnson, and the video, courtesy of GameTrailers.
