Such is love that it makes people do some pretty crazy things, and we're talking the “what were you thinking?!” sort of crazy things, not just your average “that was an ill-inspired decision” kind.

Take the story about two women who knowingly risked their lives and jumped in a river just to test a guy's love for them, for example. Yes, this actually happened. Fear not, both ladies are now safe and sound.

Really now, what were they thinking?

This most bizarre (and somewhat amusing) incident played out in the city of Ningbo in China's Zhejiang province. The two women, 20-year-old Jun Tang and 22-year-old Rong Tsao, battled over the love of 21-year-old Wu Hsia.

Apparently, it was about three months ago that Wu Hsia broke up with Jun Tang and hooked up with Rong Tsao. Desperate to get back with him, Jun Tang started harassing the 21-year-old man.

Head over heels herself, the man's new girlfriend was not in the least pleased with the fact that his ex kept calling him. Hoping to make things right, young Wu Sia decided to arrange a meeting between the two women.

The three met on the bank of a local river in Ningbo, supposedly to talk things out and make peace. One thing led to another and the 21-year-old's ex and current girlfriend got into a fight.

To prove Wu Sia still loved her, the former girlfriend jumped into the river and started calling out for the man to rescue her. Moments later, the man's current girlfriend did the same thing, also looking for a proof of love from her boo.

“The new girlfriend, fearing that he might indeed jump in to save his ex-lover, then jumped in as well and both of them began calling for him to rescue them from drowning,” said a police spokesperson.

So, who did the man save?

According to Mirror, it was his current girlfriend, 22-year-old Rong Tsao, that Wu Sia pulled from the water. He then rushed her to the nearest hospital, just to make sure that she was alright.

As for his ex, he didn't simply abandon her. Instead, he called his brother while on this way to hospital and asked him to go to the river and save her. The brother alerted authorities, and soon enough, the woman was back on land.

It is understood that neither of the two women suffered any major injuries during their impromptu late night swim. Although probably still shaken up, 21-year-old Wu Sia is also in good health.
