Commuters in New York City have uploaded photos of a duck lost in the subway on their social media accounts.

Gothamist clarified that the duck was sent there deliberately by a company trying to stir a buzz before Advertising Week.

It has been employed as means of viral marketing by insurance company Aflac. The company uses a duck as a mascot, and they have decided to send a real one into the world to tell their story.

However, PETA and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority are not pleased by the stunt. PETA is investigating the incident under the claim that the commotion, flashing lights and noises could be detrimental for the animal.

“Ducks don’t belong on the subway, especially waddling through stations, and especially not when they’re used as part of a publicity stunt that makes it harder for our customers to get around,” the MTA adds.
