“Duck Dynasty” is the biggest hit reality series to come from A&E in recent years but, most importantly, it’s a show about a lovable and lovably weird family. Apparently, the show almost didn’t happen.

Phil, the patriarch and founder of the duck-call business, didn’t think it would be a good idea.

Willie, Jep, and Si Robertson (how amazing is Si?!) were on The Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon last night to promote their first-ever Christmas album (“Duck the Halls”) and, among other things, they also talked about how the idea for the show came to be.

As Willie puts it in the video below, Phil was against it.

“We just got an email out of the blue that said, ‘Hey, I think you guys may have a big show.’ So I went to talk to dad. I said, ‘Dad, we could do a big show on a network.’ And he said, “Nah. That won't work’,” Willie explains.

Clearly, he’s more than happy to remind him of that “every week,” he laughs, because he was very, very, very wrong.

The second video below is mostly about Si talking about his book “Si-cology 1” and how that’s “it’s life in written form,” which, for some reason, confuses Fallon. He’s hilarious.
