Uncle Si scarecrow from Ball Ground is no more: it was stolen and burned by a 16-year-old boy

A scarecrow shaped as the wacky but extremely lovable Uncle Si from the hit reality series “Duck Dynasty” was stolen last week in a Georgia town. Police have now confirmed that they have a 16-year-old boy in custody but, sadly for those who made the scarecrow, it was burned.

Above is a blurry photo of “Si,” while below I included a video report on the case that went viral online.

The idea behind the scarecrow was that it was a school project in which both parents and children had gotten involved, for the annual scarecrow exhibit in the city of Ball Ground, Cherokee County.

When it was reported missing last Friday, police offered a $1,000 (€726.5) reward, in the hope that the school might get it back. However, when the boy who’d stolen it found out about how widely spread his crime had gone, he got scared and burned it.

“Someone called in a tip and said they'd seen it on a porch outside the city. He admitted that he did take it on his way home one night, and he burned it because he got afraid of the media attention and what it got on social media,” a police spokesperson confirms.

Because the boy’s gesture of stealing and burning the scarecrow shocked the kids who’d made it, he went into the class and apologized.
