Kate Middleton and Prince William, aka the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge, are expecting their second child together. Following several months of very intense speculation on the topic, this time it’s the real deal: the happy news is confirmed by a representative for Kensington Palace.

The Daily Mail confirms it, as also do several other media outlets. Further details are not available at the moment, but it is believed that the Duchess is in excellent health and is no longer facing the same problems she did when she was pregnant with Prince George.

More details are bound to emerge in the next few hours, so rest assured you’ll find out all about this soon.

A second baby was always in the cards

The Duchess didn’t have the easiest pregnancy with Prince George, but neither she nor husband Prince William made a secret of their desire to add to their brood.

In turn, this gave the tabloids plenty of room to speculate on when that might happen, so that people at home waiting for news couldn’t get by a single week without a fake pregnancy report. The most recent came out last week, when it was said that the Duchess was pregnant with a “miracle baby” because she’d experienced a miscarriage just 10 weeks before.

The bottom line is that Kate and William always wanted to have more babies: so they’re getting ready for parenthood for the second time already. The latest addition to the family will arrive next year, but no one seems to know with certainty when that will happen.

Expect a complete frenzy to take over the media and Twitter

If what happened when the Duchess was pregnant with Prince George is any indication, it’s probably best to expect complete and utter frenzy to take over the media and Twitter as the second pregnancy progresses.

Kate’s each new appearance will be heavily covered in the media, her outfits scrutinized to the smallest detail, and millions of eyes will be on her to see if she manages to let slip whether they’re expecting a boy or a girl.

As if that weren’t enough to keep you on the edge of your seats, the tabloid reports will increase in number as the pregnancy advances. If you thought the tabs were obsessing with Kate until now, just you wait to see what happens next.

The Duchess’ health could be object of concern

When the Palace announced the Duchess’ first pregnancy in December 2012, it was also revealed that she suffered from something called hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a severe form of morning sickness that affects about 2 percent of expectant mothers.

The day Kate let the world know she was pregnant, she was taken to the hospital because of this condition. In other words, she had no choice but to make the pregnancy announcement, because people would have found out about it either way.

No word yet if the condition is apparent again, but rumor has it that Kate is fine, so far.
