Microsoft claims that the Surface Pro 3 is the right device to replace your laptop, and as far as two secondary schools in Dublin are concerned, this statement is entirely true.

Mount Anville and St Vincent’s Castleknock College are both in the process of replacing their laptops with Surface Pro 3 tablets, hoping that teachers and students can thus benefit from improved mobility and productivity on the go thanks to this new device.

The Surface Pro 3, which runs the full version of Windows 8.1 Pro and thus offers support for traditional desktop software, launched in 25 new markets yesterday.

“Students face into a work environment that looks very different from the one their parents inherited at the start of their careers,” said Oliver Murphy, principal of St Vincent’s Castlenock College.

“Technology has reshaped the professional landscape. In evaluating different tablet options, we determined that familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office will stand to our students, as these are skills employers seek when recruiting.”

Microsoft presented the Surface Pro 3 on May 20, introducing the new device as the right alternative for the traditional laptop that most of us carry around these days. The Pro 3 comes with a 12-inch screen and three different CPU versions, namely Intel Core i3, i5, and i7.

Storage options go all the way up to 512 GB for the top-of-the-range version, which can be yours in the United States for no less than $1,950 (€1,500) with an i7 processor.
