The PS3's upcoming rumbling controller hits the US early next year

Still waiting for the PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 rumble-enabled controller? Don't get scared, we're not going to tell you not to, because Sony has actually dated the thing for its US release, indirectly, through a "morsel of text on a US Sony website," according to reghardware.co.uk.

March is when the PS3's upcoming DualShock 3 controller will officially arrive on the US market.

Everyone knows what the big fuss about this DualShock 3 is - its rumble feature of course. For those who haven't kept themselves updated lately, Sony has had a few setbacks with the technology implemented in their PlayStation controllers for vibration features. Immersion got on their back because they didn't credit them enough for it, but the two companies have finally settled down, allowing Sony to move on to the PlayStation 3's own rumbling controller, the DualShock 3.

The DualShock 3 was announced at the Tokyo Game Show this year. It incorporates the features and design of the SIXAXIS wireless controller, adding the above-mentioned vibration capabilities. Japan is enjoying its rumbling features since November 11, when the respective controller was released. It currently goes for around ?5,500. As for North America and Europe, the DualShock 3 is expected to ship in Spring 2008.

According to Wikipedia, those who managed to grab hold of one at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show describe the DualShock 3 as being "heavier than the SIXAXIS and capable of vibration forces similar to the DualShock 2."

Well of course it's going to be heavier than the SIXAXIS since it has motors (or whatever) inside for the rumbling. As for the vibration forces being similar to the DualShock 2, yeah... I'll bet they're similar to anything that uses vibration starting with mobile phones and ending with the worst PC game-pad.

So, remember that the DualShock 3 launches for the US market in March, next year. Until then, we hope it's not as heavy as they say, and that its rumbling features are out of this world, beyond any comparison with the DualShock 2 controller.
