IUM offers dual-WiFi as a core feature

A certain product that first reared its head at the 2010 CES seems to finally be nearing the stage of worldwide availability. Infinitec, back then, revealed a concept of a product that could convince the host PC that it is an USB flash drive while, in fact, enabling communication between two locally networked devices. Now, the company has come forth and issued a press release, revealing that the IUM, short for Infinite USB Memory, will come out on August 31 and will sell for $129.

By means of the Infinite Portal software, the IUM 'persuades' the PC that it is just regular flash drive while enabling remote access to all the content on the system, hence the Infinite epithet. This allows the product to perform such feats as streaming videos over WiFi, among other things. The other major asset is its support for Dual-WiFi, something that lets it connect to two distinct WiFi networks at the same time. As such, one's computer can be linked to the IUM even without having to disconnect from the Internet.

"We've been waiting for this day for a long time and preparing very hard for it,” Ahmad Zahran, Chief Executive Officer at Infinitec, enthusiastically explained. “We're extremely excited to finally be offering such a revolutionary product to the market and we hope that customers will get a sense on how much hard work has been put into it, especially into making something this complex and innovative as simple and easy to use as an MP3 player."

"Dual-WiFi is something that has been attempted by a few companies but never has it been done like this before," said David McKern, Chief Marketing Officer at Infinitec. "We've been able to alter the DNA of WiFi networks, so to speak, to create a unique solution that gives our customers a complete and seamless experience. Without Dual-WiFi the user would have had to choose between connecting to the Internet or using the IUM and this was not something we wanted for our customers."
