Videocon Mobile has recently announced the upcoming availability of another affordable Android smartphone, the A29. The smartphone will be available in the next couple of days and it is aimed at newcomers to the Android platform, along with users who can’t afford more expensive devices.

According to AndroidOS, Videocon’s A29 should go on sale via major retailers across the country for only Rs 5,799 ($95 / €70) outright, which is quite low even for a Jelly Bean handset.

Apart from the low price, Videocon A29’s main selling points are dual-SIM support, decent hardware specs and an unexpected stylish design.

It appears that Videocon Mobile was able to add a faux-leather back cover for the A29 and still keep the low price. Videocon A29 will be available for purchase in India in Sinful Black and Pearl White color options

Here is what Khalid Zamir, head product planning and development, Videocon Mobile Phones Division, had to say about the upcoming release of the affordable smartphone: “the Videocon A29 comes into the market after a significant duration, which we utilized to design a better and more user-centric device.

Continuing our endeavour towards innovation and bringing the best available technological advancements to our consumers, this Android Jelly Bean powered device enhances Videocon’s Mobile Phones surge in the dynamic smartphone mobile market in the country.”

Software-wise, Videocon A29 doesn’t offer us any surprises, as the smartphone ships with an older Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. The handset will probably come with a few Indian-related apps and services pre-installed, but no details have been unveiled yet.

On the inside, the A29 is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

The low default storage is supplemented by the addition of a microSD slot, which allows users to further expand internal memory up to 32GB.

Videocon A29 comes with a decent enough 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

When it comes to connectivity, the A29 offers all the standard options usually included in an Android device, such as Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and microUSB. It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone also features FM Radio and a 1400 mAh battery.

“With this launch our aim is to bring a market-leading innovation to our target audience which demands a cutting-edge smartphone well within their budget.

This device has been strategically priced for aspiring young consumers who are looking for an upgrade from their feature device and enter into the exciting world of Android,” concluded Zamir.
