No day goes by without an Indian OEM announcing a new Android smartphone. Today is no exception as Spice Mobility has just introduced the Stellar Glide Mi-438, which will be available in India via major retailers across the country in the coming days.

According to fonearena, the smartphone will be available for Rs 5,199 ($85 / €60) outright, but customers will only be able to get it in white. Sadly, no additional versions will be available at launch aside from this one.

However, Spice has confirmed that customers who purchase the Stellar Glide will also receive a free flip cover worth Rs 500 ($8 / €6) and a screen guard.

Spice Stellar Glide Mi-438 is a mid-range smartphone that offers just enough to make it worth the amount you pay for it. For example, the device packs a sub-par 2-megapixel rear-facing camera with video recording and LED flash.

On the positive side, Android fans looking for a cheap device will be pleased to know that Spice Stellar Glide offers 3G connectivity and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

The bad news is that Spice Stellar Glide only packs 512MB of RAM and while Android will work well on the device, some applications and games may not.

Spice Stellar Glide is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek, and includes 4GB of storage, though only a little above 2GB will be available for users.

The good news is that the device comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion, so users will be able to add more storage (up to 32GB). The phone’s 4-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution and features One Glass Solution.

As the title says, Spice Stellar Glide offers dual-SIM support, but also several connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS with A-GPS.

It is also worth mentioning that the mid-range smartphone drains energy from a rather low-capacity 1350 mAh battery, which should provide up to 4.5 hours of talk time or up to 170 hours of standby time.

Software-wise, Spice Stellar Glide has been confirmed to ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. No word on any major updates in the future.

“Stellar Glide is a power-driven device in terms of its processor and expandable storage (upto 32 GB). At Spice, we believe in catering to consumers’ needs and aspirations and the Stellar Glide with GMS certification is another potent effort from us in exceeding consumer expectations,” said T M Ramakrishnan, CEO, devices, Spice Retail Ltd.
