Indian company Simmtronics, mostly known for its affordable tablets, has just announced the upcoming availability of the AMAZOID M1 smartphone powered by Google’s Android platform.

According to fonearena, the smartphone will be available for Rs 8,999 ($145/€105) outright via major retailers across the country. There’s no word on when exactly the mobile phone will hit shelves, but we expect it will go on sale within the next several days.

AMAZOID M1 is a mid-range Android smartphone that offers all the ingredients required for a device to be popular in India. In this regard, we should mention it will provide users with dual-SIM support, so they will be able to fit two SIM-cards in a single device.

Simmtronics has confirmed the smartphone comes with dual standby support (GSM / WCDMA), so owners won’t be able to take calls on both lines.

Software-wise, the AMAZOID M1 ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is not that bad considering the smartphone’s price.

However, those who purchase the device should not think of any major upgrades in the future, as Simmtronics, and Indian OEMs in general, aren’t recognized for updating their products.

On the inside, the AMAZOID M1 is equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. No word on the architecture of the chipset, but we suspect it’s an A7 Cortex.

Furthermore, the smartphone packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The fact that it comes with a large display may be another reason one would want to purchase the AMAZOID M1. The device sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

The 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back has been confirmed to feature autofocus, LED flash and video recording. There’s also a secondary 2-megapxiel front-facing camera for video calls.

Other highlights of the AMAZOID M1 include: 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and GPS with aGPS support, as well as 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery.
