Mobile phone users in India interested in the purchase of a Nokia X smartphone can now head over to The Mobile Store to place an order for the device, which has just been added to the retailer’s offering.

The phone is listed on the company’s website (via BGR.in) with a price tag of Rs. 8,500 ($137/€100) attached to it and is said to become available for purchase as soon as Saturday, March 15, arrives.

The retailer provides users with the possibility to place orders for the smartphone, but it notes that they won’t receive their units for the next 12 days or so.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Nokia X was made official during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week as the very first Android-based smartphone from the Finnish mobile phone maker.

Just as the price tag at which it appears to have landed in India suggests, however, the phone is only an entry-level device, destined mainly to allow Nokia to gain some more market share.

Nokia X arrives on shelves with a 4.0-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which translates into a 233 ppi pixel density.

Moreover, the handset is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A5 Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play processor with Adreno 203 graphics, paired with only 512MB of RAM.

Even so, it should be able to provide users with pretty decent performance capabilities, especially since it runs under a forked version of Android, which lacks the usual set of Google services.

Nokia also packed the new device with 4GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot that offers support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, Nokia X features a 3.15-megapixel camera that can offer video recording capabilities, though only at low resolution. No front camera was included in the package.

Connectivity-wise, the new smartphone lands on shelves with HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps capabilities, as well as with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth 2.0. Moreover, it sports a built-in GPS receiver, which allows users to take advantage of the popular HERE Maps service.

We had the chance to play with the new handset at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, and we found it to be an appealing device, considering the market segment it is targeted at. It also feels good in the hand and appears to be quite snappy, and we believe that it will be able to attract a lot of users.
