There’s no doubt about it, Micromax is officially the most prolific handset maker in India, as the company has launched a dozen new Android smartphones just this month.

The Indian OEM has released multiple mid-range handsets in an attempt to compete with Motorola’s latest Moto E, but has also added new smartphones to some of its series, like Canvas Duet.

The latest addition to the Canvas Duet lineup of smartphones is called Micromax Canvas Duet AE90 and leaked in India earlier this week. We have already reported on the mid-range smartphone and speculated that the device might go on sale in India for around Rs 9,000 ($150 / €110) outright.

It appears that our original assessment was very close to what Micromax announced today. The Canvas Duet AE90 has just gone on sale in India and customers can now purchase one for just Rs 9,299 ($155 / €115) off contract.

For the time being, the smartphone is only available in Black color and can be bought exclusively via eBay India. However, Micromax might bring the Canvas Duet AE90 to additional retailers across the country and it may even introduce new color options.

Anyway, let’s see what makes the Canvas Duet AE90 stand out from other mid-range Android smartphones. Well, first of all, it comes with dual-SIM capability that supports both CDMA and GSM network.

This isn’t something standard for an Android smartphone launched in India, but the Canvas Duet phones are well known for this particular capability.

That’s the good news, but the bad news is that the smartphone ships with an incredible old version of Android, namely Jelly Bean 4.1. There’s no telling whether or not Micromax will ever offer an upgrade for the Canvas Duet II, but it’s less likely.

On the inside, Micromax Canvas Duet AE90 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Obviously, users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Micromax’s mid-range smartphone sports a 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel camera on the back which features LED flash and video recording.

Thanks to the front-facing VGA camera, users will be able to take video calls and capture selfies. Other highlights of the Canvas Duet AE90 include 1800 battery, 3G (EVDO / HSDPA), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio and GPS with A-GPS support.
