Micromax fans in India will be happy to learn that the handset manufacturer plans to launch a new mid-range Android smartphone in the coming weeks, the Canvas 2 Colours.

As the name suggests, the Canvas 2 Colours will allow owners to personalize the back cover of the smartphone. Thus, AndroidOS reports that the sales package of the upcoming smartphone will include a handful of additional back covers in Red and Blue.

More – such as Dark Grey, Yellow, White and Green – will be available for purchase separately for various amounts. Although the Canvas 2 Colours has already been listed on Micromax’s official website, the Indian company has yet to unveil the suggested retail price for which the handset will be available.

Luckily, we know just about everything about the smartphone’s specs sheet, including what software will include at launch. According to Micromax, the Canvas 2 Colours will be powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which indicates that this is a mid-range smartphone.

Aside from the older Jelly Bean version that will run on the handset, Micromax has confirmed that Canvas 2 Colours will also come packed with various apps and games, such as Burn the Rope, Fukrey, Frog Brust, Kingsoft Office, Getit, Opera Mini, Reverie Phonebook &Smartpad.

On the inside, the mid-range Android smartphone is far from being impressive, but for a mid-range handset, the Canvas 2 Colours looks pretty decent.

The device comes equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Even though the amount of storage is rather small, users will be able to expand internal memory up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone offers dual-SIM capability, along with 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options.

Another strong point of the Canvas 2 Colours mid-range smartphone is the 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. That’s pretty rare for a mid-range smartphone launched by an Indian OEM.

Anyway, Micromax Canvas 2 Colours also boasts an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls.

Last but not least, Micromax has confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will be powered by a 2000 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated for standby and talk time. Stay tuned for more updates on Canvas 2 Colours’ availability and price tag.
