Android fans in India will be happy to know that a new smartphone powered by their favorite mobile platform is now making its way to shelves, the Blaze 4.5.

The smartphone has recently been announced by Indian carrier MTS, AndroidOS reports. MTS Blaze 4.5 is a mid-range Android smartphone manufactured by Chinese company ZTE.

According to MTS, customers who purchase the Blaze 4.5 will also receive 100,000 MB of free data, which will be valid for exactly 1 year. However, customers will have to recharge their phones with Rs 198 ($3.2 / €2.4) first in order to receive the free data credit.

Speaking of which, MTS has confirmed that the dual-SIM Blaze 4.5 will be available for purchase via its brick and mortar stores for only Rs 9,999 outright, which is about $165 or €120.

Although lots of Android fans looking for a cheap device will be tempted to grab the MTS Blaze 4.5, the phone’s specs aren’t that impressive for a mid-range device.

Still, MTS Blaze 4.5 has a few strong points such as the fact that it comes with 1GB of RAM and dual-SIM (GSM / CDMA) support. Apart from that, this is a standard mid-range handset.

Surprisingly though, ZTE has packed a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside instead of adding a MediaTek chipset.

The bad news is that MTS Blaze 4.5 ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is obsolete even for a budget-friendly smartphone such as this one.

Obviously, don’t expect any major OS update to be available in the future, so only grab the Blaze 4.5 if you don’t want a newer version of Android.

Furthermore, the smartphone has been confirmed to sport a decent 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution. There’s also a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

MTS Blaze 4.5 has a secondary VGA camera in the front as well, which allows users to make/take video calls easier. As mentioned earlier, the smartphone offers CDMA compatibility, along with EVDO Rev A connectivity.

Aside from the Jelly Bean operating system powering the smartphone, MTS has announced that its Blaze 4.5 device includes Live TV streaming and built-in music player.

MTS has stated that the Blaze 4.5 will be available for purchase beginning this week, so those who are looking for a dual-SIM smartphone that offers both GSM and CDMA support may want to give this one a try.
