Lava Mobiles has just announced the upcoming availability of another Android smartphone aimed at the mid-range market, the IRIS Pro 20.

AndroidOS reports that the new Lava IRIS Pro 20 will be available for purchase via major Indian retailers across the country in the coming days for Rs 13,999 outright, which is about $230 or €170.

According to Lava, the IRIS Pro 20 is the prequel of the IRIS Pro 30, which seems to have seen tremendous positive feedback from Android fans. This is probably one of the reasons that Lava decided to add another device to the lineup, though it’s odd that the device has lower specs than the IRIS Pro 30.

Nevertheless, Lava IRIS Pro 20 has been confirmed to ship with Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is likely to remain on the phone until it gets discontinued.

The smartphone sports a decent 4.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution and features OGS (One Glass Solution) technology.

Hardware-wise, the IRIS Pro 20 proves once again that it’s just a mid-range Android handset. The smartphone is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

Users will also be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot. On the back, there’s an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, autofocus and video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

As expected, Lava’s mid-range smartphone offers dual-SIM capability, along with standard connectivity options, such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.

It is also worth mentioning that Lava IRIS Pro 20 is powered by a 2000 mAh battery that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

No word on when exactly the smartphone will go on sale or whether or not it will be available in multiple color options, but stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

“With the tremendous response that we received after the launch of Iris Pro 30, we are now launching another product in this series to address similar needs at a different price point.

The premiumness of Iris Pro 20 extends itself beautifully from Iris Pro 30 and we believe that the product will deliver an unmatched experience to consumers who want a combination of exquisite beauty and unmatched functionality,” said Hari Om Rai, chairman and managing director, Lava International Ltd.
