Indian OEM Intex has just announced the upcoming availability of another Android smartphone, the Aqua i5 HD. The device is a mid- to high-range handset, which is expected to go on sale in India very soon.

According to fonearena, Intex Aqua i5 HD will be available only in black color for Rs 9,990 outright, which is about $165 or €120.

The good news is that the Aqua i5 HD comes with dual-SIM capability (WCDMA / GSM) with dual Standby. It also supports other connectivity options like 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, as well as GPS with A-GPS.

Unfortunately, as with all mid-range smartphones launched in India, the Aqua i5 HD ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

Intex’s choice is a bit weird considering the rest of the specs, but there’s a chance that the Indian OEM might offer an upgrade to KitkKat sometime in the not so distant future.

Lately, many Indian companies launching smartphones in India have announced plans to offer Android 4.4 KitKat updates for some of their products. Intex may add to the list soon if the OEM really wants to please its customers.

Anyway, the Aqua i5 HD is the spiritual successor of the Aqua i5, but unlike the latter, it comes with an HD (720p) display that measures 5 inches.

When it comes to hardware, Intex Aqua i5 HD is equipped with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and only 4GB of internal memory. Luckily, the smartphone comes with microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB).

Another strong point of the affordable mid-range smartphone is the 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.

In the front, there’s a no less impressive 5-megapixel camera that might be perfect for those who like to capture selfies or use the phone for video calls.

Some unique features included by Intex in the Aqua i5 HD are worth mentioning: voice and face screen unlock, as well as flip to mute. The usual range of sensors is included as well, so expect to get light ambient sensor, magnetic sensor, proximity sensor and G sensor.

Intex Aqua i5 HD is powered by a 2000 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. It also packs 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio. Stay tuned for more details on Aqua i5 HD’s release in India.
