HTC unveiled the Desire 310 entry-level smartphone back in January and confirmed that the device would go on sale sometime in April. Over the weekend, without further notice, the Taiwanese handset maker announced the upcoming availability of another budget-friendly smartphone, the Desire 210.

As the name suggests, this is a lower version of HTC Desire 310 and comes with less powerful hardware, but the same software

For example, the Desire 310 has been confirmed to ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is the same version of the mobile platform that will power the newly announced HTC Desire 210.

However, while the Desire 310 is equipped with a quad-core Mediatek MT6582M processor clocked at 1.3GHz, the Desire 210 features only a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572M CPU inside.

In addition, HTC Desire 210 packs 512MB of RAM and only 4GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

HTC Desire 210 will be available in multiple Asian countries, but AndroidOS reports that it will first go on sale in India for only Rs 8,700 off contract, which is about $145 or €105.

Even though the budget-friendly smartphone comes with an older version of Android onboard, HTC has confirmed that the device will run a stripped down version of Sense UI, so fans of the brand will find the Desire 210 familiar.

It is also worth mentioning that HTC Desire 210 sports a 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

On the back, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel photo snapper that doesn’t seem to come with LED flash, but at least users will be able to capture videos. In the front, there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls and selfies.

No word on 3G support, but we can safely assume that the Desire 210 will offer Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.

For the time being, HTC did not disclose any details on the availability of Desire 210 in other countries, but we suspect that more info will be available soon after the release of the smartphone in India, so stay tuned.

“It is a phone that everyone will want, with amazing technology at the entry-level market space. This latest HTC Desire range phone combines, fast dual-core speeds, premium features, at an affordable price offering for users with the best experience in this category,” said Jack Yang, president of HTC South Asia.
