Acer is clearly one ambitious company that doesn’t want to let go, even though it’s not even close to being successful on the smartphone market.

The handset maker launched several Windows Phone devices and a bunch of Android phones, but none has been hugely popular among end users.

Nevertheless, Acer is trying to approach the entry-level market once again with the new Liquid Gallant Duo smartphone.

As the name suggests, this is a dual-SIM device, so it will definitely be quite attractive for customers in emerging markets.

Secondly, the Acer Liquid Gallant Duo is powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. Even though it’s not the latest operating system launched by the search giant, at least it’s close enough.

However, it appears that the smartphone is equipped with an MTK 6575 dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz. This has been especially designed to offer a cheap solution to those handset makers that want to release entry-level devices.

The level of affordability is mostly determined by the hardware configuration of the device, so a cheap hardware means the final product will cost less.

The phone’s 4.3-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The dual-core CPU is complemented by 1GB of RAM. There’s also 4GB of internal memory inside, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

On the back, the smartphone packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, but there’s no mention of a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.

For the time being, Acer Liquid Gallant Duo is available for pre-order via Expansys for only 150 GBP (235 USD or 190 EUR) outright. The smartphone is expected to hit shelves on August 8. We suspect that Acer will launch the Liquid Gallant Duo worldwide soon after it goes on sale at Expansys.
