Different Wi-Fi networks on the two sides of company walls

Having only one mobile phone packed with a large number of functions is something that handset producers have been struggling to achieve over the past years. Avaya has developed a solution for the users of Nokia Eseries business phones in order to offer the same VoIP enabled device dual mode communication solutions.

Avaya's concept works with Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70 cell phones. With this, when an employee uses his handset while roaming within company walls, it uses the company's communication system and a secure Wi-Fi network. As soon as he/she travels outside of the company's network, they can switch to the services of another Wi-Fi network.

"This unifies a business' voice applications, devices and networks to simplify communications for enterprise users wherever they go. Greater productivity and savings are just the beginning of the benefits gained with dual mode mobility", said Geoffrey Baird, vice president and general manager, appliances, mobile and small systems division, Avaya.

Such a technology has high chances of being appreciated by Nokia phone owners too. "Bringing the functionality of the IP PBX to mobile devices over cellular and Wi-Fi to employees both inside and outside the office is one of the ways mobility is transforming the way business is done", declared Tom Furlong, vice president, security, mobile connectivity, Nokia.

The new solution can be made available by downloading the Avaya one-X Mobile Dual Mode application on Nokia E60, Nokia E61 or Nokia E70 handsets. In order to do this, Avaya Communication Manager software, Avaya SIP Enablement Services (SES) and an Avaya Extension to Cellular dual mode license are needed.

The Nokia and Avaya agreement which will make it possible to bring this solution on a large number of mobile phones extends the collaboration between the two companies. Both have agreed to cooperate on the marketing and selling of dual mode offerings, as it has high chances of proving to be profitable for both of them.
