One of the cheapest dual-core smartphones available in India, the Micromax Superfone A85 can now be purchased for just Rs 18990 (380 USD or 275 EUR).

For the moment, the handset is available at Flipkart, but may be offered by other major retailers in the country as well.

The manufacturer describes the Micromax Superfone A85 as “a classy phone with features that are designed to meet your personal and professional needs.”

Unfortunately, Micromax Superphone A85 is powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, but the phone may be scheduled for a Gingerbread upgrade in the future, the folks at AndroidOS claim.

The phone measures 60.1 x 118.7 x 13.8 mm and weighs 128g (battery included), which puts it in the standard bar category. Certainly not among the slimmest in the market, Micromax Superfone A85 is more about features than look.

In this regard, the device is equipped with a 1 GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor manufactured by NVIDIA, 8 GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Furthermore, the Micromax Superphone A85 has a 3.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen that offers support for 480 x 800 pixels resolutions.

Even though the phone is not aimed at multimedia freaks, “the Micromax A85 has a capable music player that supports MP3, WAV and AAC formats.”

There's also a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, 7x digital zoom and other settings that are not that useful, such as brightness level, multi-shot and image editor. A secondary VGA front facing camera suitable for video calls is included as well.

The HSDPA-enabled Micromax Superfone A85 drains energy from a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 3 hours of talk time or up to 250 hours of standby time.
