A Romanian man was rushed to hospital because he had a fork stuck in his throat, after swallowing it for a bet.

Radu Calincescu, 25, took a very dangerous bet and swallowed the cutlery only to impress a friend. After the stupid stunt, he was taken to the A&E department of a hospital in Bacau County, where he complained to doctors of an uncomfortable feeling in his oesophagus, but didn’t mention anything about the fork he had swallowed.

Doctors performed an X-ray scan and discovered the foreign object in his throat, Metro reports.

After being confronted with the X-ray images, the embarrassed man admitted he had taken part in a drunken bet.

“I had been drinking and I bet with my friend that I could swallow the fork without getting hurt,” he explained.

Doctors said the cutlery wasn’t obstructing the man’s airway or threatening vital organs, and refused to operate him. They told him to wait and see if it came out naturally and then discharged him.

“But I have to come back in a few days to see if the fork has moved. If it reaches my stomach and looks like it could pierce the lining I will need an operation,” Calincescu added.

The man admits his gesture was a very stupid thing to do and vows to stop taking part in drunken bets.
