A drunken argument between a newlywed couple flying out for their honeymoon forced an aircraft to make an emergency landing on Sunday night.

You might think that after a wedding, the newlyweds should be happy and euphoric, but it seems that this wasn't the case for this couple whose honeymoon was over before it even started.

The groom and his new wife were flying from Atlanta to Costa Rica when they started a loud dispute and forced their Delta Air Lines flight to divert to the Cayman Islands.

Once the plane landed in the Cayman Islands, the drunk groom was escorted from the flight and arrested by the local police on a charge of drunk and disorderly conduct. The bride remained on the plane and continued her flight en route to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica.

Now, instead of celebrating their marriage in intimacy and seclusion, the groom is in police custody, while the bride is probably alone at a Costa Rica resort. Instead of sharing some private moments on a sunny Costa Rica beach, they shared their problems with the other passengers and were separated by authorities.

Royal Cayman Islands chief inspector Raymond Christian didn't disclose the identity of the couple to the press, but confirmed that the bad-tempered groom was a U.S. Citizen. He also mentioned that the man could face further charges under international air law.

Delta Air Lines confirmed that a disruptive customer caused the flight 901 to change its route.

“The flight landed without incident and the customer was met by local authorities,” said Lindsay McDuff, a spokeswoman for the airline, according to the Mirror.

Apparently, this was the second time in recent weeks that the airline had to perform an emergency landing because of a drunken passenger. At the beginning of last month, a Delta flight from Baltimore to Salt Lake City was also diverted due to a recalcitrant woman who was described by officials as intoxicated.

It seems that the previous incident was even more terrifying, as the drunken woman threatened to kill all the passengers who turned her down. She allegedly tried to get it on with a passenger and went into a violent rage when the man rejected her.

Well, flights may be a little boring sometimes, and it's fine when you have a merry co-passenger who likes to tell jokes and make others laugh, but it's not funny anymore when things escalate and turn into disputes.
