Whether we want to admit it or not, the fact of the matter is that even the highest and mightiest of the bunch have serious trouble getting around after one too many cocktails or glasses of wine.

As it turns out, it's not just people's motor control that goes down the drain after they consume too much alcohol for their own good. Animals, wild ones included, are familiar with drunkenness as well.

The squirrel that ate too many fermented crabapples

The video below, now making the rounds online, shows an inebriated squirrel desperately trying to escape a snowy backyard after having fallen from a tree.

About 30 seconds in, it becomes obvious that the creature is having serious trouble convincing its legs to take it wherever it is that it wants to go.

Fear not, the squirrel was not in any was injured when it fell from the tree. The reason it is stumbling around is that it is drunk.

No, the furry creature did not get drunk at some bar deep in the woods. Apparently, it got inebriated after having feasted on some fermented crabapples it chanced to find while looking for food.

After having struggled for a few minutes to pull its body over a mound of snow, the drunken squirrel eventually finds its way out of the backyard and goes in search of a tree, presumably to sleep it off.

Not the first creature to get drunk on fermented fruit

Back in June 2014, a Russian moose made headlines after having gotten drunk on fermented berries and having fallen head first in a pool in the city of Semenov.

Being too intoxicated to tell its nose from its hooves, the moose failed to get out of the pool on its own. Luckily, police officers in Semenov rushed to its help and pulled it out of the water.

Apparently, it often happens that animals get drunk after having eaten fermented fruit. Most of the time, they recover in a matter of hours. True, some are unfortunate enough to get hangovers, but other than that they are just fine.
