Its rescuers say the animal came dangerously close to drowning

They say it most definitely isn't OK to drink and drive, but, as proven by a moose in good old Russia, getting plastered and then walking around, trying to mind your own business and enjoy the scenery do not go together all that well either.

Long story short, media reports say that a moose by the name Monty recently needed being rescued after getting drunk and accidentally falling into a pool while exploring the wonders of the city of Semenov.

Monty did not get drunk the old-fashioned way, i.e. by going to a bar and chugging down one too many glasses of wine in a desperate attempt to forget about a heart-wrenching fight with its loved one or about how much it hated its job.

On the contrary, Metro tells us that the moose became inebriated by eating fermented berries that it chanced to stumble upon while going about its daily routine in local forests. Simply put, Monty got drunk while trying to chase away hunger.

Police officers in Semenov, Russia say that, after gulping down these berries and getting a bit carried away, the moose went for a walk around the city. Since its hoof-eye coordination was not exactly top-notch, the moose fell in a local pond.

Due to the condition it was in, the animal found it impossible to get out of the pool without assistance. The good news is that police officers in Semenov took pity on it, rushed to its help, and eventually managed to pull it out of the water.

“The beast was bonkers on booze. It was a magnificent specimen but he was so sozzled he could barely stand. We managed to rope him and get him transported to an animal shelter for the night where he slept it off,” police officer Pavel Mihachkov recollects.

Needless to say, chances are that, had Pavel Mihachkov and fellow police officers not rushed to its help, Monty would have probably ended up drowning in the pond, in which case giggling about this incident would have been out of the question.

The day after the incident, Monty was back on its feet. However, its adventures in Fermented Berries Wonderland were not without consequences. Thus, the animal woke up with the hangover of a lifetime.

“Vets said the moose had the mother and father of all hangovers the next day but he will soon be OK,” police officer Pavel Mihachkov explains. Hopefully, Monty has learned its lesson and will keep away from fermented berries from now on.
