Multi-award winning actor Joaquin Phoenix has retired from acting and is now seeking to make a name for himself in the music industry. As we already reported yesterday, it seems that his genre of choice is none other than rap, with Sean Combs / Diddy as his mentor. It turns out that this was truly the case as, over the weekend, the budding rapper, allegedly very intoxicated, has performed in a Las Vegas club and made a spectacle of himself.

Reports are coming in that Joaquin was so drunk that he was barely able to stand, let alone put on a good show for the audiences. Dressed in what must have been his “housecleaning clothes,” as several celebrity bloggers have already pointed out, looking unkempt and “jiggly” to the extreme, the actor took the stage to debut as a rap artist.

Sadly, the reaction to his number was not what he might have anticipated. The crowd’s reception was indifferent at best, with a true backlash already being noticeable on the Internet on various celebrity e-zines. Although the videos available are far from satisfying in terms of quality (see below for one, but whatever Phoenix is rapping about is hardly understandable), they do make it clear that his foray in the music industry could end with him being compared to a modern, fatter and unwashed Vanilla Ice, as blogger Perez Hilton says.

Moreover, as if the rap number was not enough to discredit him as a potentially successful musician, Phoenix also took a serious tumble at the end of it, as he was trying to get off the stage. Because of this, but also because he had been acting “weird” all night long, bad-mouthers are saying it was very likely he was too drunk to know what he was doing.

As we informed you the other day, rumor has it that Joaquin Phoenix is currently preparing to make his debut as a rapper, having taken the Vegas circuit to test the public’s reaction. On his “trip,” he is accompanied by Casey Affleck, who is reportedly doing a documentary of the making of rapper Joaquin Phoenix. Consequently, Affleck and a camera crew were also present for this weekend’s first live performance.

On a final note, given Joaquin’s disastrous performance, speculation is building that he might actually be making a mockumentary much in the manner of Sacha Baron Cohen. Stay tuned here to see whether that truly turns out to be the case.

Oh gawd.. I really really really, REALLY hope this guy never gets within an earshot of a recording studio. He should stick to acting, or drugs, but keep rap out of the equation. I'm not hating, it's just so horrible to watch this guy throw his life away.
