A little over a week ago, Snooki of MTV’s incredibly popular and even more controversial reality show “Jersey Shore” was arrested after she had too much to drink on a day out at the beach. However, she did not go down without a fight and made quite a scene before police took her in; but it was the few hours she spent in prison that got her to reconsider her drinking, she says for People magazine.

According to the diminutive star, though she hardly remembers anything from the day in question – like face-planting in front of a store and then later on the beach, causing a ruckus and making a fool of herself before police officers came to subdue her – she had enough time to think of her actions while behind bars. The feedback she got from her family, her father in particular, also made her wiser as to what she should and what she should not do in public.

Consequently, Snooki has a new rule: no more drinking before sunset. “I didn’t hurt anybody – stuff like that happens in Jersey. I was in the drunk tank for a little bit, I had too many tequilas. What are you gonna do? My dad was very, very [upset]. He’s like, ‘I didn’t raise you like this.’ I just felt really bad, so I’m definitely going to stop drinking during the daytime. And now when I go out, I only have a couple drinks. I learned that I need to calm down with drinking,” Snooki says of her experience with the police.

However, it was jail that truly made her see the error of her ways. “It was a good wakeup call for me. It definitely embarrassed my family and that’s just not good. But when I did remember and I woke up in the drunk tank, I was like, ‘Alright, I must have drank way too many cocktails.’ I’m scared to go because I feel like a criminal. I’m not a criminal. It’s just a drunken mistake. Obviously I like to party. I like to have a good time but maybe I’m overdoing it a little too much. So right now I’m just watching myself and I can have a good time not drinking,” Snooki further explains.

Even more, because of her experience that has taught her so much, Snooki is now also in a position to dish out advice to those in need of it. For instance, when children come up to her and tell her that they look up to her, she tells them they have no reason to do so because the only thing she does is party around the clock – and that’s certainly not something they should aspire to.
