British songbird Amy Winehouse has long been battling an alcohol and drug problem, and her stay in St Lucia seems to have had little effect on her in the sense of bringing an improvement. Over the weekend, Winehouse got up on stage at the St Lucia Jazz Festival, but was quickly booed away as fans saw she was too intoxicated to remember the lyrics, or stand tall for that matter, as a BANG Showbiz report says.

Amy has been spending plenty of time in St Lucia, presumably because it represents a break from the London party scene and the many friends she has there, and who are rarely a good influence on her determination to stay clean off drugs and alcohol. With all that, the singer was presumably too nervous to be performing again after such a lengthy pause, which may have prompted her to hit the bottle to calm her nerves, eyewitnesses tell the aforementioned news agency.

In fact, Amy hit the bottle so hard she was hardly able to stand, and even forgot the lyrics to her own songs a couple of times. Frustrated fans started to boo and jeer her to such an extent that she left the stage in tears, speechless. “Amy could barely stand up, she didn’t know the words to her songs. It’s a disgrace. She was so drunk she didn’t know where she was. She’s a lost cause.” one fan who was at the concert tells the media.

“Amy, 25, played for just 45 minutes and the final track she attempted to sing ‘Valerie’ was finished by her band without her. Sources claim the main reason behind her binge drinking is the hurt she is still feeling following her split from estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is allegedly expecting a baby with another woman.” BANG further says, with sources confirming this theory by saying that Amy could be seen drinking for hours in a row before the concert began.

Winehouse’s publicist, though, says there’s no truth to rumors of binge drinking, and certainly not to those saying she was not able to complete the gig as scheduled. It was the rain that made it impossible for her to perform, the rep says, although he fails to mention why the crowd started to boo if that were really the case. “Amy would like to express her disappointment that weather forced the abandonment of her show at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. The set started well, but as the heavens opened, a number of technical difficulties occurred on stage, culminating with the lighting rig failing for two songs. In addition, rain began to flood the technical wings at the side of the stage which caused sound problems. Amy and the band tried to soldier on but the set had to be cut short.” the official statement from camp Winehouse reads.

I enjoyed Amie's performanceat SLU jazz. It was not the best but many singers have their problems, remember Mary J Blige. Given all of this, and the fact that she is a recoveing addict, she still decided to do the show.

I was never a fan but I am one now, she has geat vocal ability. Why don't we give her more support and hope for the best.

Looks like her decision to get that support from St. Lucians is a good one.

Sharon...were you intoxicated too ? You are saying because of that performance you are now her fan ??
I could understand you feel some sympathy......but please.
Are you a relative ?
Sharon, find out the hotels Amy stayed at and get the feed back from the staff, people have resigned their jobs rather than put up with her, you can read this in our news paper "The Star" a few months earlier.
Mary J Bilge performed as a "recoverying" addict, and did quite well mind you !
Amy was dropped to the show by "Rastas". But the tabloids will tell you she was "arguably" binge drinking.

That performance by Amy "Wino" was disgusting !!
She appeared to have "snorted" a few lines of cocaine, the symtoms were very present. Compounded by her stage hand handing her "tumbler" size glasses of what appeared to be "rum & coke" (i stand to be corrected) made the site unbelieveably appalling.
Her underwear was more visible than her eyes.
Amy is a drug addict in "active" use and needs help. She cannot get help here in St.Lucia. I believe she is causing more damage to this countries young impressionable minds than doing any good for the country. Somehow the Minister for Tourism does not see it that way....what a shame !!!
If the opposition was in power......that same Minister for Tourism would be shouting in protest.

Sad, Amy Winehouse at 25 has probably done damage to her liver and kydneys. It is amazing the nonsense her minders come out with to excuse her poor performance on stage at the St Lucia gig. The simple fact was she was intoxicated. She and her minders are in denial about her continuing addictions to drugs and alcohol.

It is doubtful if she will even make it to the 2009 V Festival near Chelmsford, Essex this year. Her performance in 2008 was dreadful. A sad waste of talent. If she doesn't get back into Rehab and make a serious go at recovery, then she has only a few years to live at the rate she is going.

She should be deported by St Lucian authorities back to Britain where she might get some help - but she has to want it, nobody can get her clean and sober. She has to ask for that help. A '12 Step Program' is what she needs.

I live on the island of St Lucia.:) I think everybody should leave Amy alone and leave her be. Everybody in life goes through there on troubles but the difference is they are not on the next newspaper headlines. Leave the girl alone and she will get through it in time. The only person who can help Amy is Amy. Love her work she is talented.
