DrumMania is a videogame developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, Inc. and published worldwide by Konami. The game was initially released in the form of arcade cabinets, which is the normal medium for the series, but a version for the PlayStation 2 console from Sony was released in December 2000. It is an arcade title built upon music simulation and rhythm concepts.
DrumMania is very similar to playing the drums in music simulation videogames such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero series. Basically, players have to match the input of their controller with the notes that keep scrolling on the screen. As long as players match the two, they keep scoring and progress through the song. If they fail several notes in succession, the song stops and the stage needs to be replayed. A short clip of the song played is also presented to gamers but in a small screen area so that it does not attract too much attention.
At the end of each of the songs, players are given a quick report showing them how well they did and a suggestion on whether they should try again. In order to get a more complex musical experience, players can link DrumMania to GuitarFreaks to simultaneously get to control the guitar and the drum elements in a song.
