A tourist from Florida has drowned while vacationing in the Bahamas over the weekend.

The husband and father-of-two has been caught in the currents, drifting off towards the island of Eleuthera.

According to I Science Times, Superintendent Stephen Dean from the Royal Bahamas Police Force first identified the American tourist as a male resident of Palm Beach.

The South Florida Business Journal writes that officials have found the remains of 47-year-old Jeffrey A. Bolton, an accountant traveling to Bahamas with a group of friends.

Bolton was a community leader, co-founding an accounting company based in Boca Raton in 1992.

One of his children, his son Jason, is a leukemia survivor, and his illness has prompted Bolton to make donations and participate in several charity events hosted to help those suffering from leukemia.

He was active in the Bone Marrow Foundation, which he helped run as a member of the board of directors.

The rest of his party explained that he ventured off alone and had poor swimming skills.

“He was vacationing and went swimming with a group in what seemed to be a very safe area. Some serious rip currents came along. Unfortunately, Jeff was not a good swimmer. There was nothing that his friends could do,” his business partner Michael Daszkal informs.

“We worked all weekend to mobilize the 12 partners, to help his family and to reach out to clients. [...] The mood in the office is somber, but we have an account manager that is handling all of his clients,” he mentions.

“He was respected in his profession and built a great business, but as a human being, I don’t know too many people as generous, kind and down-to-earth as Jeff Bolton,” adds Bolton's friend Harvey Oyer, of West Palm Beach, in a statement relayed by the Palm Beach Post.
