The developers of one of our favorite desktop apps have confirmed something we’ve been waiting for a very long time – the Dropbox iPhone client has been submitted to Apple for approval. If the Dropbox team hasn’t, by any chance, slipped inappropriate content in the app’s “public” folder, Dropbox for iPhone should be live any day now.

“Good news everyone! The Dropbox iPhone app was officially submitted to the iTunes store last week and now we’ve got to play the waiting game. Since all of you have been playing the waiting game for far longer than we have (and secrets, secrets are no fun), we’ve decided to give you a sneak peek at some of the features our app will be packing once our benevolent masters at Apple approve it,” a message on the Dropbox blog reads.

Dropbox is a complete file-sharing, backup & sync solution available in both free and paid form. The cross-platform piece of software runs on Mac OS X versions 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard), as well as on Windows and Linux. With 2GB of storage (free account) and the app installed on multiple systems, one can keep important files up-to-date, or instantly share those files with others through a simple drag-and-drop operation. 50GB plans are available for those who also use Dropbox as a secure backup solution.

According to the team of developers behind this useful tool, abilities typical to the iPhone version of Dropbox will include:

- Access your Dropbox on the go - All the contents of your Dropbox are available for viewing. You can even stream music and movies in your Dropbox straight to your iPhone. - Download files for offline viewing - Add files to your ‘Favorites,’ and they’ll be accessible at any time. - Take photos and videos and sync them to your Dropbox - Take a photo from your iPhone and email its public link to a friend in less than a minute. - Share links to files in your Dropbox. - Photo galleries.

Some sneak peek imagery was also available on the Dropbox blog. Here’s what we found:

Credits: the Dropbox team “We’ll of course keep y’all updated on the app’s submission process,” the Dropbox team adds, “but keep your fingers crossed! We should also add that Will’s been chipping away at a lot more fun stuff for the iPhone and that the first version of the app is only the beginning of something far more epic. Sit tight!,” the post ends.
