The first dropbox product aimed at businesses rather than regular users

Dropbox has been taking the world by storm, if user numbers and the latest funding round are evidence enough, but, so far, it's been aimed at regular users almost exclusively.

This hasn't stopped small companies from adopting it as well, it's a simple solution for a problem that many have. But until now, they had to make do with whatever Dropbox is offering to everyone.

Now they have a choice, Dropbox for Teams has been launched, a new subscription option aimed at companies, small ones in particular, who need more storage and better support than what Dropbox regularly provides.

Dropbox for Teams starts at $795, €497 per year for five users. Each user gets 200 GB of storage, which is pooled together for a cool, round 1 TB of cloud storage.

That should be enough for any five-person team out there, except in very rare occasions. Users can ask for more if they need it.

The price seems steep at first, but it's actually smaller than what Dropbox is offering regular users. The top paid tier offers 100 GB of cloud storage, for $199, €124 a year.

Five users would get 500 GB of storage for close to $995, €622 so the team package comes at a $200, €125 discount. Any additional user costs $125, €78 per year and adds 200GB of storage to the pool.

Again, for anyone working together and needing a large amount of storage, Dropbox for Teams makes economic sense. What's more, you also get consolidated billing, better support and other perks, like unlimited version history included in the subscription.

Dropbox has 45 million users at this point and many of them are businesses. While Dropbox is not ready to tackle the enterprise market, small businesses may find everything they need. Of course, as the company grows, you can expect that it will start offering services further upmarket.
