Dropbox 2.7.41, a client for an online service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere, is an experimental version that has just been released and users have been invited to test it.

The new experimental build of the Dropbox client is now ready for download, and even if it's not one of the biggest releases so far, it comes with few interesting changes. One of those changes concerns the Linux users directly, which is a rare occurrence when it comes to the Linux version.

Dropbox releases don't usually feature Linux-centric options and the interface has been the same for a long time. The good news is that this latest experimental build shows that something can be done about the access times to the hard-drive.

According to the changelog, the CPU usage when updating the UI during simultaneous downloading and indexing has been reduced, and the CPU usage and disk I/O (read and write) resulting from extraneous updates to file change-times has also been reduced.

This latest improvement should prove very useful, especially because it only applies to the Mac OS and Linux platforms.

Check the official announcement for more details about this release. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
