New security features have been added this week for users of Dropbox for Business accounts, who are the priority for all Dropbox measures relating to protection of user privacy.

On Tuesday, the company announced that its privileged users would benefit from three new controls that allow better management of the content shared via Dropbox links.

They can protect folder architecture from being modified by putting a lock on the write attribute, giving those who access shared folders view-only permission.

Dropbox for Business users can ensure that even if a shared link falls into the wrong hands, its content is not disclosed to the third party. This can be done by password protecting access to the information.

The third control newly added by the developers of the cloud storage service is the possibility to set an expiration date to a shared link.

As such, when the intended recipient no longer needs access to the information, the shared link will expire after a set period of time. The expiration time takes into account the time zone of the customer.

By implementing the new features, Dropbox adds fresh options that can protect its business customers from falling victim to disclosing links to shared content to third parties, either by accident or as a result of a malicious action aimed at them.
