Dropbox has just announced the release of a new flavor of their mobile client for Android-based smartphones, namely 1.0.2.4, a forum build, aimed mainly at fixing a series of issues.

The new iteration of the mobile application comes only a few days after the Dropbox for Android forum build 1.0.2.3 was released, and brings forth some new improvements

According to Dropbox, the new Android release builds on the enhancements that were included in previous flavors of the application, while also adding some more fixes into the mix.

Here's what the release notes for the new 1.0.2.4 version include: Removed need for READ_LOGS permission Smaller memory footprint in directory and gallery views for speed & reliability Stability and force-close improvements

From 1.0.2.1: Fixed bug where Gallery didn't work on some 3G networks Sped up startup Better support for non-standard SD card mount points (Incredible, Nook, Galaxy Tab) Fixed Force-close when attempting to share from mail & contacts Display if unable to contact Dropbox due to hotspot or proxy in the way Android 2.3 Gingerbread compatibility fixes: Support for ext4 filesystem Support for xlarge (tablet-sized) screens

As stated above, this is only a beta version of the application, and the company notes that it was released mainly to receive feedback from users, so as to see whether it would require further fixes before it is included in the Android Market.

“Hi, we have a new version of the Dropbox app out, for a final round of testing before release on the Android Market. Please try it out and let us know if you find any problems,” Dropbox notes in a recent post on their forums.

Some of those who already downloaded and installed the application report that they encountered no or little problems with it.

Those interested in trying out the new Dropbox for Android 1.0.2.4 would find it available for download on Softpedia too, via this link, or can wait for it to be released in the Android Market, which should happen in the near future.
